We've had reports of video playback not working on Fire OS, i.e. FireSticks and the Fire TV, we suspect a recent Fire OS update to be the cause. Images and other content types are unaffected, it is only video that displays as a blank screen.
We have a few options to consider.
1) If you do not need video support, as we've delisted from the Amazon App Store, you can sideload the Android apk from our website, everything will work as normal except for video playback. Sideloading is the process of installing apps other than via the Amazon App Store, there are many tutorials online that cover how to do it.
2 ) Instead of using the Luna Screens app, you can try running our app in the Amazon Silk Browser, via this method videos still seem to be supported. Open up the Amazon Silk Browser, navigate to player.lunascreens.com and follow the on screen pairing instructions, then use your screen as you would normally. To hide the toolbar, move your cursor to the bottom of the screen and it will hide. (Note: if you delete your other screen before pairing the new browser one it will use account credit and you won't be charged)
3 ) Request a refund for any unused time remaining on your account and search for other signage CMS options, there are others out there that work differently to our method and may be unaffected by this issue so you might find a solution that works.
4 ) Last option is to consider purchasing a plugin Android media stick or Android media box and run our software via that.
We've investigated it and from everything we can tell videos are playing correctly but they are showing up as a blank screen on the Fire OS hardware. We've created a ticket with Amazon in respect to the issue but we don't know how long it will take to resolve. UPDATE: The ticket has been closed by Amazon without a resolution.
Going forward we're going to drop support for the Amazon App Store.
We will periodically review to see if a Fire OS update makes our app compatible again or if we find a work around.
