Auto Boot Help and Troubleshooting

When you install the Luna Screens app for the first time you will be asked "Would you like to run this app on device start?". If you select 'Yes' then the app will try and run as soon as you turn your device on.

This can be useful to avoid having to manually start the app. You only need to turn your device on and it will start playing your configured content. But in some scenarios this might not work.

Underpowered devices

The OS (operating system) the app runs on can sometimes be a bit fickle. Through testing we've seen low powered systems not register the boot command, so we'd encourage not going for the absolute cheapest display as boot up can be unreliable, if you do have a budget display and you find it takes a very long time to start up, you can always purchase an Android media box or our Luna Screens Signage Stick to run on Android with a bit more processing power while still utilising your TV.

Google TV and Android TV

On Google TV and Android TV you must enable the specific permission 'Allow display over other apps', the app will walk you through doing this on the first time it starts up. We have seen that occasionally this permission doesn't register. So if auto boot is not working on Android or Google TV, the first thing to check is that this permission is enabled. Navigate to Settings -> Special app access -> Allow display over other apps, and then ensure the permission is toggled on for Luna Screens.

Third party booters

If you're still not having much luck with our auto boot system, as a last resort there are third party boot loaders that will boot an app of your choice which may give you a bit more mileage.

How do I change my auto boot setting?

We only show the auto boot selection popup the first time the app is started, this is to ensure there's no chance of popups showing while content is running. If you need to change this setting you will need to uninstall and reinstall the app. If you currently have a paid screen you will not be charged twice to re-pair and upgrade a screen.
